LiveMARYLAND - Featured Home Service Professionals - Best Practices for Hiring Contractors, Vendors, Handymen, Plumbers, Electricians, etc.
From time to time, The McIntyre Team of Keller Williams Integrity may share a featured home service professional as a service to our clients. The vendors shared are independent contractors, not affiliated businesses. The McIntyre Team of Keller Williams Integrity shares the contact information of local businesses not as an endorsement or guarantee of quality, but as a convenient point of reference.
Information is deemed accurate at the time of publication but is not guaranteed. Where provided, license numbers have been verified with the State of Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation as of January 2021. If a license number is not included, that may not necessarily mean that a license is not required for the work being performed.
Consumers should independently verify the service professional’s license number and status (or verify that a license isn’t required for the work performed) with the Maryland Department of Labor and Licensing at http://www.dllr.state.md.us.
No representation or warranty is made for service providers included with any endorsement.
Consumers are urged to follow the following best practices when hiring a home service provider:
- Verify the contractor’s licensing status. If you are unsure if the work being performed is considered to be “home improvement” and requires the service provider to be licensed, visit https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/mhic/mhicfaq.shtml.
- Call the DLLR at 410-230-6309 or 1-888-218-5925 and ask if complaints have been filed against a contractor and whether they have been resolved or are still open.
- Get a copy of the contractor’s current liability insurance certificate.
- Always get a written contract.
- Pay no more than 1/3 of the contract price as down payment.
- If a building permit is needed, ask to see it before work starts.
