WRONG. Making a hasty, uninformed decision can cost you thousands of dollars in earnings — don't be fooled by a "slick salesperson". It is important that you do your homework and get the information you need to feel confident in who represents your largest asset.
Some things to consider:
How experienced is the agent in the area? How many homes have they sold in your neighborhood, city, and county?
How knowledgeable are they about home values in your area? How informed are they about market trends, and how to make the most of those trends to create an ideal outcome for you?
How experienced is the agent in negotiating? How much training and expertise do they have in communicating with all parties involved to help you achieve your ideal outcome?
What is their track record - do they have any recent success stories? What do their reviews say?
What is their marketing strategy to set your home apart from the competition? Can they share examples?
What support do they have to stay on top of all of the details that can make or break one of the most important transactions of your life?
Something not to consider — how low is their commission? RED FLAG ... you get what you pay for. If their sole focus is on how much commission you can save, we'd ask you to consider — if they are offering a discount commission, how confident are you in their negotiating skills? How much are they willing to give away of your profit?
