The Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum, located in Catonsville, offers many attractions for the avid history buff or for the naturalist. With the many hiking trails, walking paths, conservation areas, and botanical and vegetable gardens, the park will appeal to all age groups who have eco-centric interests. This land spans 142 acres and will provide hours of delightful interaction and scenery, and a glimpse into the history and life of one Maryland's most famous scientists.

With the vast amount of museum offerings, visitors can explore several interests spanning from the seasonal and permanent exhibitions on the life of Benjamin Banneker to the scenic restorations of the Banneker farmhouse and cabin displaying artifacts and reproductions of the colonial era. The museum hosts many gatherings and events to showcase colonial Maryland lifestyle.

The museum marvelously captures the tenor of the environment that Benjamin Banneker thrived to become as our nation's first African American astronomer, almanac publisher, surveyor, and naturalist. Exhibits include displays on daily living during the colonial era in Maryland, including information on food preparation, letter writing, agricultural practices, and much more. Visitors can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air in the park, trails, orchard, playground, and picnic areas while learning more about the native plants and animals of Maryland.

The orchards, herb, and vegetable gardens display his talents as a naturalist while the farmhouse, cabin, and trails highlight his pursuit of technical endeavors. People can now engage for a day utilizing the beautiful picnic areas and trails to provide an outstanding historical outdoor experience. Located at the crossroads of Old Frederick Road and Oella Avenue, the park is a short drive or bike ride to other local points of interest such as Old Ellicott City's Main Street, the Patapsco Valley State Park and the Patapsco River, and Catonsville's famous Trolley Trail, No. 9 line.
